Okay, so I (like many other teens) have acne. And I don’t mean a small pimple here, another one there. I mean my whole face is covered in big ol’ red dots and scars. People have recommended lots of things to me, but one that seemed to keep coming up was apple cider vinegar. I thought, okay, that makes sense. But how am I supposed to apply it? Like a toner? That sounds messy. So then I went about my way using other things like natural skincare that makes me take forever to get ready, and Starface pimple patches that never work. And then I thought, maybe I really should try this apple cider vinegar thing. But there has to be an easier way to apply it! So I was like, Gaby, you’re an herbalist! You can think of something! There has to be a way to apply it that’s fast, easy, and not messy. Like using a cotton swab or something. And then I remembered the Jack and Jill story and…it hit me.
Let me explain. If you are unfamiliar with the full story of Jack and Jill (and honestly I would be too if my sister weren’t the founder of Farmhouse book.co), then don’t worry. I’ve got you.
So basically of course there’s the first part that everyone knows:
Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water;
Jack fell down and broke his crown,
And Jill came tumbling after
And then there’s the next part:
Up Jack got and home did trot,
As fast as he could caper;
Went to bed to mend his head with vinegar and brown paper.
And of course there’s the next few parts, you know, bullying, child abuse, blah-blah-blah. But we need not get into that. Anywho, I was thinking about that last part. You know, the vinegar and brown paper part.
You see, when you dip brown paper (like the kind you get in packages) into vinegar and then put it on your skin, it sticks onto your skin until it’s dry. So if you do that and put it on your acne, then you’ve got yourself some vinegar and brown paper pimple patches!
How to make them
You’ll need:
- Brown paper (like the kind you get in packages)
- Apple cider vinegar
- A small bottle of some sort
- Herbs like rosemary, chamomile, and/or calendula. (optional)
Now you just put the apple cider vinegar into your little bottle, add some herbs if you want, and then there you have it! I decided to do this fantasy style, so I put the apple cider vinegar in a little potion-looking bottle with a cork and rolled the brown paper up and tied it with string to look like little scrolls.
How to use
All you have to do is take a piece of your brown paper, pour some apple cider vinegar on it so it’s soaked, and then put it on your acne and leave it there until it’s dry.
Why it works
Apple cider vinegar is antibacterial and anti fungal which can help to clean the acne and it can take down inflammation. It also has acidic properties which can take down skin ph levels and exfoliate dead skin cells.
I hope this blog post was helpful and that you will be able to use this genus invention of mine (if I do say so myself). I will have more blog posts to come, so I will talk to you again in the next one!
Hugs,
