Brushing Hair – the Ultimate Guide!

I have always enjoyed brushing, braiding, and just playing with hair! Ever since I was younger, I remember always asking my mom if I could brush her hair, and I could do it FOR HOURS!!! And today, that actually came in handy when my mom had a headache! And what did I do? The only fast thing I could think of! PLAYING…WITH…HAIR!

Benefits:

In my opinion, hair brushing is VERY……underrated. Sooo to show everyone JUST HOW UNDERRATED IT IS…….here are some of the benefits:

  • Detangles-
    ….well, I mean….Yeah.
  • Improves Texture, Shine, and Overall Health of your Hair-
Brushing your hair not only gets out all the knots in your hair, but it also distributes the oil on your scalp making your hair more moisturized, less dry, frizzy, and less prone to breakage.
  • Circulation-
Brushing your hair is also very stimulating and helps circulation on your scalp which makes your hair healthy in general.
  • Pulls out loose strands-
Hair brushing also removes the strands of hair that are shedding/loose which prevents breaking and tangles.
  • “Therapy”-
Brushing your hair (or even someone else’s hair) is actually very relaxing and calming especially if you do it slowly so you can really feel the bristles rubbing against your scalp.
  • Removes Dirt, Dust, and Dandruff-
When you brush you’re hair, it actually takes off any dirt, or debris that build up on your scalp.
  • Bonding-
If you brush and/or do someone’s hair, it’s actually a great way to bond, and in my mind a very nurturing thing to do! Especially for mothers and daughters! =)

How To:

Okay, Okay, I know what you’re thinking. OF COURSE I KNOW HOW TO BRUSH MY HAIR!! Who doesn’t right? Weeell, although there isn’t a right or wrong way to brush your hair, there ARE ways to make it less painful (I’m looking at you tender heads) and to make your hair EVEN MORE healthy and shiny! Here are my Top Two Tips:

  1. Start at the bottom-
When you’re brushing your hair, it helps to grab your hair tightly at around neck level and brush the ends of your hair FIRST and work your way up. Trust me, HUGE DIFFERENCE!!
  2. The Brush is EVERYTHING-
In my experience, the brush you use makes a HUGE difference! I’ve tried A TON of different brushes in my life and the one that in my opinion is the best (also the one I am currently using) is the Tangle Teezer hairbrush.

How to give THE BEST head massage by brushing:

  1. First, grab a spray bottle with water in it, a hair brush, some hair ties and/or clips, and this is optional, but you can also grab a leave-in conditioner, or any products you would like.
  2. Next, spray the hair and scalp with the water (you can also use rosemary water).
  3. Brush the hair (or your hair if you are doing this on yourself) at a nice, relaxing, slow speed, and make sure to brush all the sides and back of the hair.
  4. Now would be the time to put in leave-in conditioner, or any other products you want!
  5. Last, but not least, end it off by doing a nice hair-do/any protective hair-style, and voila!

I hope this blog post was very helpful to you, and hopefully my tips and tricks will help YOU like they helped my mom! (brushing her hair DID in fact cure her headache!). I can’t wait to talk to you about more stuff in the next blog post! Hugs, Gabriela loren <3
